Harrison area rancher and angus cow breeder Bob Sitz hadn’t bought hay since his father passed away in 1989. Typically, his 40,000-acre operation produces enough hay to feed 1,400 cows with enough excess to sell about 3,000 tons of it each year.
The November municipal general elections may seem far off, but preparations are underway and the candidates slated for the official ballots have been announced. Here’s a breakdown of which Madison County communities will be included in the Nov. 2 election.
Ennis
The sign posted on the Gravel Bar door says it all: “Closed Mondays until further notice. We hate to do it but until we get more help we have no option. Anybody want a job?”
If you’re like me, your days of extreme hiking, rough climbing and sleeping on rocks may now be fond memories. Or maybe not so fond. More than $40 million in funds from the American Rescue Plan Act were recently disbursed to communities across Montana, with several Madison County communities making the cut. Here’s where the money’s headed locally:
Ennis: $126,825.62
Sheridan: $94,767.99
Twin Bridges: $53,259.10
Virginia City: $27,587.45
As of June 1, Madison County had three active COVID-19 cases, zero hospitalizations and 786 confirmed positive cases since the beginning of the pandemic. Montana reports a 43% rate of residents fully vaccinated, and Madison County sits just below that at 38%.
Community members filled the Ennis Town Hall on May 13 for the Ennis Town Council meeting. At hand was the contentious decision regarding the approval of a Conditional Use Application which would allow for six three-story, four-unit condos to be built in the North Forty Subdivision in Ennis.
This is the second graduating high school class to celebrate this milestone amidst a pandemic.
