Mustang golf update

State bound

We are closing in on the end of our season. The varsity boys and girls are leaving Ennis Sunday afternoon, May 10, headed to Billings, to play the Lake Hills Golf Course in Divisional play. The top 3 teams and top 20 individuals, for both boys and girls, will advance to play in the State Championship, being held May 18-20, at Lake Hills as well.

Over the past couple of weeks, Riley Reynolds won the Jefferson Invitational at the Green Meadow Country Club in Helena, and followed that up with a second place finish the very next day at the Manhattan Christian High School tournament, at Cottonwood Hills Golf Course. John Hostetler has been very consistent this season, posting 3 top-5 finishes. Marisa Snider has been leading the lady Mustangs this season, with several top 5 finishes of her own. Keira Rice and Jaula Murphy have shot personal best scores this season, as has freshman Collin Graden.

For the junior varsity Mustangs, a couple of meets were unfortunately cancelled due to weather. At a re-scheduled Broadwater Invitational, played at the Old Baldy Golf Course in Townsend, Aitoa White led the way with a 9-hole score of 42, closely followed by Finn Graden with a 43, which helped propel the boys team to a first place team finish. Aitoa followed that stellar performance with a second place finish this last Thursday, at the JV tournament in Deer Lodge.

That same day, the varsity boys and girls played The Old Works golf course, as part of the Anaconda Invitational. John Hostetler led the way for the Mustangs, shooting 82 and finishing 11th. Marisa Snider finished tied for 4th, carding a 90.

Ennis had 5 players qualify for the Class B State Golf Championship, next week in Billings, at the Lake Hills Golf Course. For the boys: Riley Reynolds, John Hostetler and Collin Graden. Girls: Marisa Snider and Keira Rice. There will be a practice round on Monday, May 18th, followed by two days of state competition, May 19 and 20.

Congratulations on a great season Mustangs!  And best of luck at State!
