District 12C Basketball Tournament recap
Three Madison County teams took to the court last weekend to compete in the 12C District Tournament.
Twin Bridges Boys
The Twin Bridges boys district tournament was highlighted by a 72-69 overtime win over rivals Sheridan in a loser out match Saturday Feb. 22 at Manhattan Christian School. Hunter Turk led all scorers with 25 points for the Falcons. Royal Pierre added 16 points including a team high three 3-pointers and Jay Mellaney went 6 of 7 from the foul line and totaled 14 points.
The Falcons finished fourth after a second loss of the tournament to Gardiner and qualified for the play-in game on Monday Feb. 24 against the Two Eagle River School. Turk again led the Twin Bridges offense with 24 points. Flint Janzen grabbed 14 boards and added 19 points of his own while Brandt Nelson dished out four assists. The Falcons lost the game 66-83 and saw their season come to an end.
Sheridan Boys
The Sheridan Panthers started their tournament with a 56-50 win against Shields Valley. Jacob Mann dropped 23 points and Trey Shrank added another 13. Mann scored 13 of his 23 in the fourth quarter including three three pointers and two converted foul shots.
Their opening win earned Sheridan a matchup against number one seed and eventual tournament champion Manhattan Christian who put up an impressive 84 points in the Friday afternoon matchup.
After losing a double overtime thriller to Twin Bridges 69-72, Sheridan finished the tournament tied for fifth place.
Twin Bridges Girls
The Twin Bridges girls suffered a tough 29-32 loss to White Sulphur Springs to start their district tournament. The Falcons took an early lead and went into half time up by three before White Sulphur Springs closed the deficit and earned the win in the second half. MaRae Smail scored 19 points, Tenly Keltz added eight more in the loss.
The second match of the tournament saw them lose to the host Manhattan Christian 36-52. Lila Smith scored 10 in the loss and Brooke Anderson added nine. The Falcons finished the tournament tied for fifth place.
