Madison County football teams all sport one loss records on the season

Sheridan took down Manhattan Christian on homecoming, Ennis shutout Lame Deer and Twin Bridges fell to the Drummond-Phillipsburg juggernaut

Sheridan 30-18 Manhattan Christian

The Sheridan Panthers moved to 3-1 on the season after a homecoming win against Manhattan Christian.

“The guys always show up with a little extra for homecoming and I can say with confidence that it brought a sizable crowd this year, which really adds to the atmosphere,” said head coach Tyler Lott. “ Winning the homecoming game is always fun but in the fashion that we did, I could tell it was pretty special and will be something they will always remember.”

Junior Logan McDougal anchored the defense with nine tackles, two of them for a loss. He added 64 receiving yards and caught one of Hunter Martens three touchdown passes.

“We got out to a great start and were up 14-0,” said Lott. “They answered with a score of their own but on the ensuing kickoff, Charlie Larsen took one to the house and it helped keep momentum in our favor. MCHS did punch one in right before half and that really tightened things up.”

“The 3rd quarter was a defensive battle and it was a four-point game well into the final quarter,” he continued. “A clutch 4th quarter drive full of dives and sweeps was capped off with a great throw from Hunter Martens to Grady Elser that really put us over the top. Grady Elser then sealed the win with his second INT of the game.”

Junior Larsen tallied 71 rushing yards and another 40 receiving yards. Elser led the team with 10 tackles.

“We had great team effort throughout the whole game,” Lott said. “It was a battle between two good teams and came down to the final minutes. It feels good to come out on top of a game like that and is a major confidence and momentum builder. Junior linebackers Logan McDougal and Eirik Reedy showed up and stifled a good running team. Sophomore quarterback Hunter Martens has really stepped up this year and has made some clutch plays when we needed them, including in this game.”

Next up for the Panthers is a road game against undefeated Drummond-Phillipsburg.

“The schedule did us no favors to start the year, we had gone through 4 weeks of practice with only 1 game, and so I have to compliment my team and coaching staff for maintaining patience and poise and for continuing to get better during a slow stretch,” said Lott. “Sitting at 3-1 with four weeks to go makes for an exciting final stretch.”

The Panthers return home on Oct. 9 to face Lone Peak.

Ennis 76-0 Lame Deer

The Ennis Mustangs pushed their season record to 4-1 with a home win against Lame Deer. The win gives them a four game winning streak and marks the second shutout for their stingy defense that has yet to allow a point to be scored on their home field.

Since dropping their season opener on the road to still undefeated Drummond-Phillipsberg, the Mustangs have outscored their opponents 288-30 over the course of four games. The team faces a trip to 3-2 Park City on Oct. 2. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Twin Bridges 13-68 Drummond-Phillipsburg

Twin Bridges suffered their first loss of the season in a home game to league leading Drummond-Phillipsburg. The high flying Falcons offense had a difficult time building momentum against the defending Southern 8-Man champions and their defense struggled to find an answer to the bruising running game.

The Falcons take the loss into their bye week this week. They will return to the field on Oct. 9 with a road game against Ennis.
