2009 Falcons basketball team honored
Former state champs inducted into Twin Bridges Alumni Hall of Fame
At the Twin Bridges Alumni banquet this past Saturday night, the sports hall of fame committee honored several recipients.
The 2009 boys basketball team which won the state basketball championship that year.
The McAlear siblings, all 7 of them were all state in at least one sport.
Basketball coach Weldon Amundsen, who coached from 1969-1976.
And the legacy honor to Dean Naranche, who was in school between 1953-1956
The 2009 boys basketball team that won the state tournament includes Coach Neil Christian’s, assistant coach Brad Elser, players Austin Mailey, Clay Pierson, Jake Schmidt, Ryan Tilstra, Pete Anderson, Jonathan Ashcraft, Luke Banks, Tony Degel, Tanners Eggers, Tyler Lott, Ethan Nordquist, Robert Walsh and managers Chance Legget and Tyler DiGiovana.
They went 26-1 that year and beat Rocky Boy 63-61 after coming back from an 18 point deficit in the 2nd half ! Jake Schmidt hit the winning 3 pointer at the buzzer! Clay Pierson was the MVP of the tournament.
The McAlear siblings were in school between ‘85 and ‘98. The parents of these athletes are the late Dwayne McAlear and Marie McAlear. Starting with the oldest, Erin, she was all state basketball, Allstate 4 years in track, and has school records for TBHS in the high jump and the javelin. She also was selected to the Class C basketball game.
Earl, all state in basketball, all state in track 3 years and all conference football. He also holds school records in the 800 meters and 1600 meters and holds the divisional basketball scoring record of 45 points.
Egan, was all state in track and all conference football .
Emry, all state in football 3 times, Allstate in track 3 times. Had the school record in the 3200 meters until ‘90 and the 300 IH hurdles until ‘95. Class C football all star game.
Elyn, all state in volleyball ball and played at Rocky Mountain College.
Evan, all state in basketball, all state in football, and all state in track. In ‘95 he won the state triple jump and 300 H hurdles, was captain in the ‘95 Class C football all star game. Went on to run track at MSU.
And Elex, all state football, all state track and all conference basketball 3 years. Class C all star football game MVP, ‘98.
Wow, just wow!
Basketball coach Weldon Amundsen. He coached from 1969-1976, and guided TBHS to a 173 win - 51 loss career. A 77 % winning percentage! That’s over 20 wins a year. He took 4 teams to state and got 3rd place in 1974. That team holds the state tournament record of 110 points scored in a single tournament game.
Legacy honor to Dean Naranche, who from 1953-1956, played basketball, football and track. He is the first 1000 points career scorer at TBHS and ended up with 1100 points . Great football player as a running back and was on the 4 Rivers championship team in 1956. On the track, at 5’8” was a high jumper and had the TBHS record until Chuck Miller broke it with 6’5” jump!
