Sheridan is the only municipality in Madison County with enough candidates to require an election this November.

The candidate filing deadline for the 2025 municipal elections in Madison County was June 11 and Sheridan was the only municipality that fielded more candidates than available seats. Ennis, Twin Bridges and Virginia City are expected to pass resolutions appointing the candidates to their positions rather than spending money on an election for candidates running unopposed. 

Ennis, Sheridan and Twin Bridges only fielded one mayoral candidate. Virginia City, whose town council appoints a mayor from their ranks, only fielded two council member candidates for three positions. Twin Bridges also only fielded two town council candidates for three positions. After the candidates are confirmed for their terms, they will be tasked with finding and appointing an additional council member.  

The Town of Ennis fielded two full term council members for two open positions, but only one candidate to fill the two unexpired council positions meaning after the candidates are confirmed to their new positions they will have to find and appoint a council member to complete one of the unexpired terms. 

Below is a list of the candidates who filed. The Sheridan Municipal General Election will be held by mail only, according to Paula McKenzie, Madison County Clerk & Recorder/Election Administrator.  The deadline for ballots to be returned will be November 4. More information about the election will be available as the date grows closer.
