Last weekend, The Madisonian’s owners, Erin Leonard and Susanne Hill, attended the Montana Newspaper Association Conference. While at the conference, Leonard and Hill both attended seminars so we can learn how to serve you guys better.
Art director Leonard’s favorite presentation was by Ron Reason, who put on a seminar called A Look at Montana Newspapers: Impactful Design for News and Advertising.
“I found the seminar to be inspiring and exciting because I am always afraid to go out of the box that newspapers have been in for so long,” Leonard said. “His ideas and concepts are easy and fun to apply and I am excited to use them to freshen up the paper for every kind of reader.”
Hill, our sales director, enjoyed a seminar on real time bidding, native/content marketing and the future of SEO.
“We discussed some really exciting opportunities and ways we can help our advertisers prosper online because of or online credibility as a newspaper,” Hill said. “Basically, everyone can expect some real exciting options to get current and competitive online.”
On Saturday night at the MNA awards banquet, The Madisonian beat out multiple Montana papers to place first in the category of best overall website. We were also fortunate enough to get six second places – for best ad to sell or promote merchandise, best feature photo, Mark Henckel Outdoor Writing Award, best front page, best image building ad and best lifestyle coverage. We also placed third in the best niche publication category, and one of our contributors, Ennis local Gen Pierce received third place for best feature photo.
All in all, we learned a lot and are excited and rejuvenated to kick off summer and celebrate this great county … and we’re also pretty tickled we came home with some awards!
