Virginia City community begins growth policy revision

The town of Virginia City celebrated its 150th anniversary last year—now the community is beginning the process of planning for the future while remembering and preserving history.

Members of the public, town officials and meeting facilitator Joe Willauer gathered on Jan. 23 for the first of three meetings to be held for the public throughout the planning process. Willauer is with Headwaters Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) out of Butte.

“Headwaters RC&D has partnered with the Town of Virginia City to update Virginia City’s Growth Policy,” Willauer said. He added that the first meeting was set up to be an opportunity to provide comment and input about the town. “These comments will be incorporated into the growth policy as a critical piece of the plan and will be prioritized by the public at subsequent meetings,” he said. “You are the ones who live and work here. We want to know what you think.”
