Two fatal single-car accidents impacted Madison County this past week.
Last Thursday, Sheridan resident Danny Fritts died in an accident on Montana Highway 41 about nine miles north of Dillon.
Fritts lost control of his pick-up truck and it rolled several times, according to a press release issued by the Beaverhead County Sheriff’s Department. Fritts wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.
According to the sheriff’s department, Fritts was an electrician in Dillon and was driving home from work about 6:30 p.m. Montana Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
Last Tuesday, Jan. 10 Rachel Platt, 32, of South Lake Tahoe, Calif. died in an accident near Harrison.
Platt lost control of her vehicle on Montana Highway 359 about three miles north of Harrison, said Madison County Sheriff David Schenk.
Platt was traveling north toward Cardwell and failed to navigate the sharp turn at the railroad crossing on the highway. Her vehicle rolled several times. Platt was the lone occupant of the vehicle and was killed despite wearing her seatbelt.
There was no evidence of alcohol at the scene, but a toxicology report was ordered. The cause of the crash remains under investigation and officials will receive toxicology results in a couple of weeks, Schenk said.
The accident was the first fatal wreck in 2012 in Madison County.
