Before summer comes spring, and for many of Madison County’s youth, that means sports. March 13 marked the beginning of track and golf practices, and many students and coaches around the county are ready to get back in action.
Due to plummeting temperatures, high winds and blowing and drifting snow, all Madison County basketball games for Dec. 16 were postponed. The Harrison vs. Sheridan game was rescheduled for Jan. 6, and the Ennis vs. Twin Bridges game was rescheduled for Feb. 7. After an undefeated season and a state championship, Ennis football coach Chris Hess has one more accolade to add to the list.

Tis the season … for basketball in Madison County. The Madisonian reached out to the varsity coaches from Ennis, Harrison, Sheridan and Twin Bridges so we have an idea of what to expect from our teams this season.
Though Wibaux put up a fight – the toughest the Ennis football team has seen so far this year – the Mustangs gained momentum early on and brought home a win, 46 – 6, which earned them a trip to the state championship on Nov. 19 in Charlo.
In a nail-biter match, the Lady Mustangs lost to the undefeated Belt Huskies and took home the second place title. The Huskies, who capped off a perfect season with the title match, knocked the Mustangs into the consolation bracket early in the tournament, but the hungry Ennis team made their way back, better than ever and looking for redemption.
The Lady Mustangs were in Butte last weekend for the western divisional tournament, where they swept all four divisional matches in three sets, taking home the championship title and plaque.
The Maroon Activities Center in uptown Butte was “bumping” with action as the teams from 12C converged on the facility for the district tournament on Oct. 27 and 28.
