Ruby Valley SAR simulates incident command, practices search for missing people

“What we have is a wife,” said Rick Hafenfeld with Ruby Valley Search and Resuce at the start of the organization’s June 4 training. “She’s divorced and a school teacher in Helena. She has two kids and she reluctantly allowed them to go camping with their dad.”
Hafenfeld described the ‘dad’ in the scenario as a “deadbeat.”
“He was supposed to check in with the ex-wife, and he hasn’t been,” he said. “She’s coming here for an interview, and we’re going to break down in to three units – planning, logistics and operations.”

Ruby Valley Search and Rescue holds ice rescue training

“This is the time of the year fishermen fall through rotten ice,” said Bill Sinclair president of Ruby Valley Search and Rescue. “So we went out and trained for it.”
