Steve Orr: Giving back both in a career and as a volunteer

With 35 years total in law enforcement, Orr retried from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office as a captain in 2008 after 21 years with the county. While he was with the sheriff’s office, Orr also volunteered his time with the Virginia City Volunteer Fire Department, which he gave 17 years to. He joined the Madison Valley Rural Fire District in 2005, and Madison Valley Search and Rescue after he retired in 2008.

2.3 acres burn in VC Ranches

Madison Valley Rural Fire Department responded to a call of a grass fire in the Virginia City Ranches just after 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 6, according to fire chief Shawn Christensen. At the time of the initial call, it was reported to be an acre in size and growing, with a grader and diesel fuel tank located in the vicinity of the fire.


Firefighters from across the state descended on Ennis last week during the 2015 Fire and EMS Joint Conference, hosted by the Madison Valley Rural Fire District.
“We have documentation that shows (our fire department was) founded in 1915,” said Ennis fire chief Shawn Christensen. “So, two years ago, when the conference was in Corvallis, we campaigned to have the next one here to celebrate 100 years.”
