Commissioners host informational session about potential Big Sky TEDD and what it could mean to Madison County taxing bodies

Commissioners from Gallatin and Madison counties, representatives of entities like Ennis Schools, Madison Valley Medical Center and Madison Valley Conservation District, and community members from Big Sky and Madison County attended the presentation, because a subcommittee of the Big Sky Chamber of Commerce is researching the possibility of implementing two TEDDs around Big Sky.

Earlier this month around 25 people gathered at the Madison County Administrative Building in Virginia City to hear a presentation about Targeted Economic Development Districts (TEDD) and Tax Increment Financing (TIF). Janet Cornish and Lynette Windemaker, who work with Community Development Services of Montana, ran the work session.

MDT starts district-wide rumble strip project with Highway 84

On Friday, Oct. 16, the Montana Department of Transportation’s Butte district started the first stretch of a project, which will add center rumble strips to 625 miles of highway in Southwest Montana.

The Big Sky dilemma

In Kevin Germain’s opinion, development activity in Big Sky is as big as he remembers it since 2007, when the recession hit. Now the question is workforce housing. Germain is the vice president of planning and development for Lone Mountain Land Company and is also on the board of directors for the Big Sky Chamber of Commerce.
