General rifle season ends with average hunter success rates

With record breaking numbers at the Cameron check station during opening weekend, only 460 hunters passed through the final weekend, and only 57 had game, resulting in a 12 percent success rate for deer and elk.

During their April meeting, the Solid Waste Board discussed whether they want to push recycling in Madison County via a recommendation to the county commissioners.

Dump site improvements, recycling discussed at solid waste board meeting

The Madison County Solid Waste Board met on Feb. 23 to discuss recommendations from the Montana Association of Counties to improve safety at the dump sites around the county. In their report, MACo suggested improving all 10 sites by better containing some sites, manning others and closing sites when not in use or staffed.

Bear Creek area closure lifted

On Oct. 20, the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest lifted the closure of the Bear Creek area of the Madison Mountain Range southeast of Ennis.
The area was closed following the Oct. 1 human-grizzly bear encounter 3 miles up North Fork Bear Creek on a recommendation from Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks.
