Officials look for sign vandals in southern Ruby Valley

Enforcement officials from the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks are seeking information regarding a vandalism incident at the Ruby Dell Block Management Area that took place earlier this month.

The vandals used a shotgun and other large-caliber firearms to damage and destroy sign-in books for accessing the property. They also used signs posted along the roadway to indicate the BMA for target practice.

The Ruby Dell Block Management Area is located in the Sweet Water Road area in the southern Ruby Valley.

“It’s sad that some people have absolutely no regard for property – even when that property is there to help the public,” said Game Warden Rick Schmauch in a press release issued by FWP.

This is the second time in two years that signs and other property at the Ruby Dell BMA have been damaged or destroyed by vandalism. Game wardens have several leads from the Dillon area and are currently pursuing tips implicating four young people in a white four-door vehicle. The incident is thought to have taken place over the weekend of Sept. 8-9.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to call Game Warden Rick Schmauch at 683-4258 or (800) TIP-MONT.
