Marjorie Jacoby Anhalt

1925 to 2018

Marjorie Anhalt passed away in Ennis, Montana on February 8 at the age of 92. A recent émigré from California, she had resided at Generations Assisted Living in Ennis since autumn.

Marjorie was born in the small Iowa town of Earling, the youngest of nine. As a young woman she moved to Los Angeles with her husband William, where the young couple strove to find an apartment where they could “hear the freeway”, something they considered the height of sophistication. Marjorie raised two kids in the more suburban San Fernando Valley, and enjoyed a career in real estate sales, followed by ownership of a Hollywood employment agency. An avid photographer, Marj documented travel, nature, and her family’s life, and even did some professional photography at one time. Life then took the couple to San Francisco, where they lived for 25 years. Marjorie retired at the age of 73 as a Senior Accountant for a biotech research frim.

Marj’s favorite activities involved family and friends, popcorn and laughter. She loved to dance, listen to big band music, ski, golf, and play cards. She was always captivated by good photography, and enjoyed that until late in life. Friends always describe her as elegant, gracious and gentle. She is survived by her two children, Angela Karanas of Ennis and Jeff Anhalt of San Francisco, along with Jeff’s family – Wife Dana Ellsworth and girls Marina (12) and Kate (11).
