Hendrickson competes in scholarship contest

On the night of Feb. 21, American Legion Post 31 hosted the post-level American Legion High School Scholarship Program speech contest at Twin Bridges High School. The event went well, despite only one brave high school student stepping in front of the crowd. Roman Hendrickson presented two speeches; his prepared (8-10 minute) original oratory entitled “The Violation of the 1st Amendment,” and his assigned (3-5 minute) extemporaneous speech on the 2nd Amendment. Hendrickson's effort earned him $100 and qualified him to compete at the district level.

At the District 6 competition on March 3 in Boulder, Colo., Roman competed against two high school students from Helena. Roman again presented “The Violation of the 1st Amendment” and an extemporaneous speech on Article 2, Section 4 of the Constitution, dealing with the impeachment and conviction for treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors of all civil officers, including the President and Vice President. Following the judges' tabulations, Roman came out second overall in the district competition and received a scholarship for $150.

The American Legion Post 31 would like to congratulate Roman and say thank you to the local community volunteers for yet another successful oratory contest.
