Multiple sage grouse management plans presented

Sage grouse management plans have been in the works for a year or more by agencies like the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), United States Forest Service (USFS) and also by Montana’s Sage-Grouse Advisory Council. The plans, which have received some pushback and concern from a number of sources, vary in some ways, but will work together to manage the state’s sage grouse population and habitat.

On Wednesday, Jan. 29, the Sage-Grouse Advisory Council, which included State Representative Ray Shaw of Sheridan, presented its plan to Governor Steve Bullock. Bullock created the council last year to develop a plan to conserve sagebrush grasslands that support Montana’s sage grouse population.
