This summer, if you’re fishing around Madison Valley, be sure to remember your camera because you just might wind up winning a local photo contest.

Fischer Realty in Ennis is partnering with the Madison River Foundation to sponsor a summer fishing photo contest, said Sara Johnson, managing broker for Fischer Realty’s Ennis office.

“It was actually an idea that just got thrown out in one of our monthly staff meetings,” Johnson said.

The idea was to try and engage people in the area along with people traveling through in a contest that taps into the general love for fly-fishing. Pat Graham, who is a broker at Fischer and an avid fly fisherman came up with the idea, she said.

The Madison River Foundation seemed the obvious partner for the contest, Johnson said.

“We thought it was a terrific idea,” said Richard Lessner, executive director of the Madison River Foundation.

The river foundation had thought about working a fishing photo contest into their annual Ennis on the Madison Fly Fishing Festival, Lessner said. The Fischer Realty contest will serve that role.

“We’re thrilled that a local merchant wants to be involved in the festival in that way and wants to help out,” Lessner said.

The contest will have monthly winners June, July and August, Johnson said. The monthly winners will receive a box of flies donated by Beartooth Flyfishing Lodge and Fly Shop in Cameron and the O’Dell Creek Fly Shop and Rainbow Valley Lodge in Ennis.

A grand prize winner for the entire summer will be announced Friday evening, Sept. 3 at the fly fishing festival, she said.

The June winner of the contest is Ryan Bramlette from Bozeman, who took black and white scenic shot of a fly fisherman resting on a rock in Mill Creek in the Madison Valley.

The contest began in June and is slowly getting more attention, Johnson said. Most of the early submissions are from Fischer Realty clients.

“It’s picking up some steam,” she said. “The last couple of weeks we’ve got quite a few entries.”

For more information on the contest, go to the Fischer Realty Website. Submissions can either be digital or print and can be emailed to jim@fischerrealtymt.com. The photos must be from waters in the Madison Valley. Entries are limited to five per person.
