Restore, preserve and protect what makes America free

Dear Editor,

Ignorance of the principles for which we stand is a greater threat to our Constitutional Republic than foreign enemies.  As we celebrate Independence Day this 4th of July, how many of us will take time to reflect on the words, “and to the Republic for which it stands” contained in the Pledge of Allegiance?  Principles of the freedom we enjoy as Americans such as equal protection under the Law invokes the question, “what law”?  The origin of all law as understood by our founding fathers is divinely inspired and contained in the laws of nature created by the God of nature.  This is what is referred to as Natural Law.  Before our Constitution, the Bible served as a primary guide for peace and prosperity.  Galatians 5:14, states that “the whole law is fulfilled in one statement, you shall love your neighbor as yourself”.  I can think of no better definition of equal protection under the law, can you?

Restore, preserve and protect what makes America free – read our Constitution, and understand the origin of its principles.  Freedom, peace and prosperity are dependant upon you.

150th anniversary Madison Duathlon

 Dear Editor,

Titles don’t always tell the whole story, but the title of this letter almost does.  This coming weekend – Sunday, July 7 – is the 2nd annual Madison Duathlon.  This is a bike/run race from Ennis to Virginia City.  The homestretch and the finish line is straight up Wallace Street and right in front of the Madison County Courthouse.  The race celebrates the 150th anniversary of our very own Virginia City.  The biking leg starts at Lion’s Club Park in Ennis and 14 miles later the cyclists arrive at Twin Lakes on Axolotl Lake Road.  Then, the cyclists jump off the bikes and become runners and continue on Axolotl Lake Road for another seven miles to Virginia City.  It’s a fantastic bike/run race and unique as well since it is a point-to-point race rather than a loop route, which is much more common.  The fact that it starts in Ennis and finishes in Montana’s 1st Territorial Capitol that is celebrating its 150th anniversary is icing on an already delicious cake.

Why am I telling you this?  I want Madison County residents to take part.  The Madison Duathlon is the first leg of the Madison Trifecta (three events in one year).  On July 28, the second leg, the Madison Marathon, will be held.  It is the Highest Road Marathon in America. On August 11, the third and final leg, the Madison Triathlon is on.  It’s a tri from Ennis Lake to Pony.  Athletes who do all three events, there are six signed up so far, win a special prize.  Anyone who does even one event can brag for the rest of his or her life.  It’s a true challenge and accomplishment.

Support your community and spend this coming Sunday on a bike and on foot.  You can also form a team and split the duties. You can sign up online at www.racemontana.com or you can also just show up, pay the entry fee, and do it.  We’re allowing race day entries.  If you have any questions, just give me a call at 682-5923 or 570-4531.

Have a wonderful 4th of July and I hope to see you on Sunday.

Regards,

Sam Korsmoe

Race Director of the Madison Trifecta Sporting Series

Regarding Passage of the S. 744 amnesty bill

Dear Editor,

On Thursday, the Senate passed a massive immigration bill with the help of all Democrats and about 14 members of the GOP many of who received a pay-off (sweetener) to vote for it. It was passed while the Senate sat at their desks in a false bravado in an attempt to match the massive passing of Obamacare, and which will probably have the same harmful result to the American people.

Our two Democratic Senators, Baucus and Tester, voted along Party lines from the get-go. They did not keep immigration promises made in the past either on their previous issue pages nor in the letters they have sent us in reply to immigration concerns-they instead chose Party first! The fact that a majority of Montanans polled did not want this amnesty just didn’t seem to matter.

This bill, S. 744, is full of give-aways, a “rolling amnesty”, places the American people on the “hook” for many of the costs of illegal aliens while CBO says it will depress US wages and increase unemployment. It does NOT secure the border until well after legal status is given to millions of illegal aliens, and that is at the discretion of DHS who says the borders are already secure. So do we believe that once legal status is given to aliens, we will take it away if borders/interiors aren’t secured?

Any immigration bill should be for the benefit of OUR citizens-not illegal aliens, business groups, labor or even Senators looking for Party reelection help. Unfortunately, this bill does the latter!

Concerned,

Robert Kennedy
