Since Pony was first settled, numerous articles have been written about how the Town of Pony got its name. Almost all the articles claim a miner, Tecumseh Smith, with a nickname of Pony due to his diminutive size, found gold in a tributary to North Willow Creek circa 1867.
VIRGINIA CITY—Donna McNamara has been coming to Nevada City for 17 years, acting as a schoolmistress in the annual living history productions in the ghost town.
ENNIS—Earlier this year, Toni Bowen tried to look up the history of the Madison Meadows Golf Course, and by extension, the ranch that had been there for decades before the golf course came to be.
WHITEHALL - Ron Hunt was born in 1936. As a child, he helped out his mom and dad with their dairy business in Waterloo, a few miles north of Silver Star. They would freeze blocks of ice in their 1940s refrigerator in order to pack their cream and butter and get it—nice and cold—to markets 40 miles away in Butte.
VIRIGINA CITY – Good weather resulted in a large crowd of people from all over, judging from the variety of license plates, turning out for Virginian City’s Memorial Day parade.
The parade took place on Saturday, May 26 at 1:30 p.m., and marked the opening day of the town’s tourist season.
ENNIS – The end of the school year is not an easy time for the kids, or their teachers. Everyone is looking forward to summer vacations and the freedom of not having to go to school.
