Candidate forum planned for Saturday in southern Madison Valley

In anticipation of the upcoming elections, a candidate forum will be held at the Driftwater Resort south of Cameron this Saturday.
The candidate forum will give Madison County Commissioner candidates from district 2 and 3 a chance to meet with people and answer questions, said organizer Patricia Stabler.
Several county offices are up for election this year, and all the candidates from contested races will be invited to the forum, Stabler said. However, only the commissioner candidates will get a chance to field questions from the audience.
“I want to hear what they have to say on the issues, so we know how to vote,” Stabler said.
The contested county races are Justice of the Peace, County Commissioner – district 2 and district 3, and Clerk of Court.
For Justice of the Peace, the incumbent, MaryAnn O’Malley is being challenged by Jon Chris Tenny from Sheridan.
For Clerk of Court, incumbent Bundy Bailey is being challenged by Karen Miller.
The race for Madison County Commissioner in commission district 3 is between incumbent Jim Hart and challenger Dave Germann.
The race for Madison County Commissioner in commission district 2 is between Dan Happel of Pony, Evan O. Gannon of Pony, Ty Cobb of Twin Bridges and Ron Nye of Twin Bridges.
The other county offices up for re-election – clerk and recorder Kaatz, county attorney Chris Christensen, sheriff Dave Schenk and treasurer Shelly Burke – are all running uncontested.
Topics Stabler plans to discuss with the commissioner candidates includes the Mountain States Transmission Intertie, which is the large power line project proposed to go through the Jefferson Valley; streamside setbacks, county budget, truck traffic and personal property rights.
The candidate forum will begin at 4 p.m.
In addition to the candidate forum, the Driftwater Resort is celebrating their one-year anniversary. Starting at 6 p.m. there will be free beer, pizza and cake. The Slackjaws will begin playing at 7 p.m.
