“We were up 100 hunters on this opening weekend,” Cunningham said. “We’ve seen a lot coming through from North Dakota, Minnesota, California.”
On opening weekend, 11.4 percent of hunters passing through the Cameron station were successful, according to the FWP. Last year’s landmark opening weekend had 15.3 percent of hunters with game, though Cunningham pointed out there were only 548 hunters for opening weekend 2013 instead of the 656 in 2014. Hunters harvested 66 elk, seven mule deer and two white tail deer.
